Introduction
|
| |
|
| |
This site records a little piece of
my history associated with
Paignton Harbour in Torbay, South Devon, England, UK. The
site also records some historical information about 'Newton Abbot Power
Station' where I served my apprenticeship. |

|
| |
I have put the site together in appreciation of one person
who was a great influence in my life during the 'growing' years
from the summer of 1954 when I was twelve. In the following
years he became my mentor and friend. He operated a series of pleasure boats out of Paignton Harbour and was known to
all as 'Johnny'. |

| |
It all started one morning when
I walked around Paignton Harbour from 'Browses' on the South Quay to the North
Quay and 'Johnny' shouted up from Coral * Star - hey 'Nips' fetch a bucket of
fresh water - he insisted on all the varnish work being cleaned twice daily with
fresh water and a chamois! That was it and I soon learnt how to keep the boat
ship shape in every regard. There is a book here yet to be written! |

The linked pages set down some detail as far as I can
remember - if you have any more memories please
email to me - they would be much appreciated.
You may have taken holidays in the area and have some photos - again they would be much
appreciated. |

A new section is
included
covering the Newton Abbot Power Station - follow the NAGS (CEB CEGB) link - where I
commenced my first 'official' employment on 1st September 1958 as a Mechanical
Engineering Craft Apprentice. My full working life to retirement (early) was
spent in the Electricity Supply Industry. |

| |
The site also includes a little
information on where we now live. We left the area in 1965 to work in Bristol
and the South East returning to live in Brixham in 2001 My parents remained in
Paignton for their whole married life with Mum departing in 1996. |
