The whole of Torbay was full of ships at anchor. This was 1969 when we still had quite a Fleet. At night the ships were lit in true Royal Navy fashion - the Bay gave the impression it had been filled in with a completely new town. An amazing sight. The Royal Yacht was also present. Needless to say holiday makers were carried on numerous trips to view the Fleet. Some of the Ships were opened to visitors so again the local pleasure boats had a busy time ferrying people out and back.

The Fleet Auxiliary vessels were present as were a couple of submarines. This number of ships within the Bay had not been seen since the War years. It certainly was some event.
